6.5 Grendel rifle is a new fad for long range shooting. Cost efficient, based on your standard AR-15 platform, 6.5 Grendel is the new go to AR! 6.5 Grendel Type 2 is a simple switch - all you need is a barrel and a BCG - and here you go, you have a new caliber on your hands! It even accepts (type 2 only) your standard 5.56 magazines.
In this age of e-commerce, savvy consumer gathers the parts from multiple sources. Yes, our hobby is expensive and we must stay within a budget. But by doing so, we are taking a chance of our rifles to work properly. So what happens when your rifle does not feed properly? Here are some tips on quick fixing your 6.5 Grendel from Moriarti clients.
First, check your magazine. Your standard 5.56 mag will work with any 6.5 Grendel Type 2 upper receiver.
Second, check your 6.5 Grendel BCG. Take a look at the ejector (note, this is different from the extractor).
The ejector is a spring loaded plunger. If the bolt has the ejector cut at 90 degrees, or fully perpendicular, this leaves a sharp edge that “hooks” the base of the brass case as it slides across the bolt face, trying to center into the bolt face. If the cartridge centers, it is pushed directly into the chamber and feeds correctly. If it “catches” on the sharp edge, it will not line up with the bolt face, and will be pushed into the chamber at an angle. This will cause it to bind and fail to feed. The solution to this is to slightly bevel the edges of the top of the ejector at 45 degrees, to keep it from “catching” on the base of the brass case. This enables the bolt face to “capture” the base of the cartridge, and push it directly into the chamber.
This easy fix is especially applicable to “larger” cartridges in the AR15 weapon system, and less critical on the standard 5.56 rounds.
