How to choose a 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10 upper

Barrel length

• 7.5"–12.5" pistol uppers: pistol-length gas for compact AR-10 pistols and suppressor hosts.
• 18"–20" uppers: a balance of velocity and handling for hunting and general precision shooting.
• 22"–24" uppers: the most velocity from the cartridge for long-range target work.

Barrel material and finish

416R stainless barrels (bead blasted or nitride) are chosen for accuracy and corrosion resistance. 4150 CMV and 41V50 chrome moly barrels with nitride or Parkerized finishes are durable and cost less. Fluted barrels, such as the Faxon Big Gunner and straight fluted bull barrels, cut weight while keeping a heavy contour.

Lower receiver pattern

Most Moriarti 6.5 Creedmoor uppers are DPMS low-profile pattern. The Aero Precision M5 uppers and the Aero Precision style M5 upper accept DPMS .308 components and fit DPMS high-profile (.210 tang) lowers such as the Aero M5. Always confirm your lower's pattern before ordering.

What is included

Most uppers ship without a bolt carrier group and charging handle, which you can add on the product page. The 18" match grade upper comes with both installed.

FAQ

What twist rate is best for a 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10 upper?

A 1:8 twist is the most common choice for 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10 barrels and suits most popular 6.5mm bullet weights; every 6.5 CM upper in this category uses 1:8. Compare the twist with the 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition maker's recommendations when choosing loads.

Will a 6.5 Creedmoor upper work on my .308 AR-10 lower?

Usually yes, as long as the upper and lower share the same pattern (for example DPMS). 6.5 Creedmoor uses the same bolt face as .308 Winchester and generally runs in standard .308 AR-10 magazines; the barrel and ammunition are what change.

Is a short-barrel 6.5 Creedmoor pistol upper worth it?

A short barrel trades some velocity for a much more compact rifle. See 6.5 Creedmoor pistols: yes or no? and 6.5 Creedmoor vs 8.6 Blackout pistol before you choose.
