Can you shoot .22 Short ammo in a .22 LR rifle?

Many firearms specifically chambered for .22 Long Rifle can also chamber and fire .22 Short, but compatibility depends on the individual firearm. Semi-automatic .22 LR firearms may not reliably cycle the lower-powered .22 Short cartridge, while some manually operated rifles are designed to accept .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 LR. Always check the firearm manufacturer's caliber and ammunition specifications before use.
